London Dock

Houston Cox was appointed to carry out the joinery works to the penthouses at the London Dock development, part of our package scope was a feature glazed partition.

The design brief was a contemporary Manhattan type screen with 30 minute integrity only glazing. This glazed lattice partition was designed and constructed to segregate the penthouse staircase from the upper living space and consisted of powder coated stiles and lattice work and fire rated glazing. The screen had to incorporate an equal pair of locking doors with ironmongery that co-ordinated with the rest of the penthouse. Careful consideration of logistics was required during the design process to ensure that the modular sizes could be transported to the workface at the top of the building whilst maintaining both the design intent and the quality required for the penthouses

One of the key feature, bespoke joinery elements carried out in the penthouse works at the London Dock Development was a bespoke wine unit and kitchen dresser unit.

We developed the original design intent which was required to conceal a MAOV shaft whilst providing the necessary storage space.

Houston Cox were able to develop the initial design through their internal design team and provide a buildable and robust solution whilst maintain a quality product. The unit consisted of herringbone grey veneer doors and panels with contrasting spray painted and glass wine rack.

Careful consideration with MEP was required to enable the various lighting positions throughout the unit.

In the penthouse at the London Dock Development, we developed the original design intent to provide a functional room divider which included a provision for closed off storage whilst still maintaining the feel of space within the living area.

This was achieved by including an open shelving unit to part of the joinery whilst the reverse of the remaining part of the unit had feature full height panels. The unit consisted of herringbone grey veneer doors and panels and coordination was required with MEP in order to incorporate the electrical and data points which were concealed with joinery.
